Synopsis:
This presentation will outline significant features of the new landscape for clinical commissioning in England. Changes to the topography include clinical commissioning groups and the NHS Commissioning Board, the development of commissioning support services and the role of Local Professional Networks. The presentation will also consider medicines optimisation as a professional compass for navigating in this environment.
Biography:
David is Director of the Specialist Pharmacy Services for East & South East England and a Visiting Professor to the UCL School of Pharmacy. He chairs the London New Drugs Group, the London panel for consultant pharmacist posts and the networks for chief and PCT lead pharmacists in London and East of England.
He is member of the London Clinical Senate, London Cancer Drugs Fund management group, DH/SHA Pharmacy and Prescribing Leads group, the NHS Information Centre’s High Cost Drugs steering group and the Modernising Pharmacy Careers programme board. During a secondment to the Department of Health (DH), David was actively involved in the 2008 Pharmacy White Paper.
