This session provides an overview of the National Early Warning Score (NEWS2) universal scoring system, and an opportunity for active participation through measuring the physiological parameters required. It highlights the role of NEWS2 as an aid to the clinical assessment of acutely unwell patients.

 

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the NEWS2 universal scoring system.

2. Demonstrate basic clinical assessment skills in measuring and recording six physiological parameters.

3. Calculate a NEWS2 score in the initial assessment of a simulated patient.

4. Interpret the NEWS2 score to determine clinical risk and response.
