Empowering Pharmacy Technicians through PGDs: best practice, training and clinical implementation

Empowering Pharmacy Technicians through PGDs: best practice, training and clinical implementation
Join our panel discussion where we will explore how recent legislative developments are enabling pharmacy technicians to work under Patient Group Directions (PGDs).

We will look at what PGDs are, what this change means for pharmacy technicians, and how different sectors are beginning to implement this in practice. We will then open for a panel discussion to hear experiences across a range of sectors, who will share their personal and professional experiences and how the work they are undertaking has improved patient care and experience. We will also hear from the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) and the Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS), who will share key resources, training, and guidance to support implementation.

One year on and it is clear the introduction of PGDs for Pharmacy Technicians marks one key milestone in an ongoing journey. We must strive for wider service integration, and national consistency.
  • Reflect on the opportunities and challenges of setting up a new service under a PGD
  • Explore the complementary roles of the pharmacy team, considering education, governance and changing perceptions
  • Consider the key messages to support any service development integration
  • Consider new ways of working and have an awareness of extended pharmacy technician roles
