The clinical and operational impact of Automated Dispensing Cabinets on medicines management and staff experience

09 May 2025
Technology & Innovation Theatre
Pharmacist Secondary Care

We have installed over 90 automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in the trust and undertaken 8 separate pieces of research and audit (published) to evaluate their impact on whether they improve the use of medicines on the ward, reduce omitted doses for patients, reduce time taken to administer medicines for patients and general medicines management. We will aim to present the general findings from our evaluation in order to provide an overview of what the evidence is suggesting to help determine what further research maybe required or where ADCs are beneficial.

Speakers
Roger Fernandes, Chief Pharmacist/Clinical Director - King’s College Hospital NHS Trust
Alice Pinfield, Specialist Pharmacist – Patient Services - King's College Hospital NHS Trust
Áine Walsh, Principal Pharmacist - Data and Technology - King's College Hospital NHS Trust
