The growing burden of liver disease and its management

Improvements in healthcare over past few decades has led to decreased death rates in all major diseases in the UK except liver disease.
This session looks at the burden to the patient, healthcare systems and society of liver disease and considers the management options to limit the ever increasing impact.

1. Understand the difference between acute and chronic liver disease and the related impact on patients' health.
2. Appreciate the methods to assess liver disease and why ongoing monitoring is important.
3. Gain awareness of the prevalence of chronic liver disease in the UK and it's burden.
4. Understand how to limit disease progression by lifestyle changes and limited drug therapy options available.
