Transformation of the trainee pharmacist experience across the system

This session outlines the upcoming changes to the Trainee Pharmacist year beginning summer 2025. It highlights the strategic approach taken by the Bath, Swindon, and Wiltshire Integrated Care System (BSW ICS) to embrace these changes. The focus is on how BSW ICS is leveraging new opportunities to enhance training and ensure an equitable and supportive experience for all Trainee Pharmacists across the region.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the reasons driving the change in the employment model for Trainee Pharmacists in BSW.
  • Describe the development process of the new system-wide model of employment, including the key challenges encountered.
  • Recognise the significance of prioritising Trainee Pharmacist wellbeing and inclusion in the evolving training structure.
  • Identify the anticipated benefits o the new employment model for trainees, employers, and the wider healthcare system.
  • Explore the future ambitions for pharmacy workforce development within the Bath, Swindon, and Wiltshire Integrated Care System.
