Accelerating clinical trials delivery - a multilayer pharmacy approach

09 May 2026
Strategy & Policy Forum

This session will explore the projects led by the clinical trials (CT) pharmacy department at Manchester Foundation Trust to accelerate the set-up and delivery of CTs in the North-West. This work is in line with the recent government goal of accelerating CT activities in the UK. Pharmacy is involved in multiple stages of trial development and conduct; however, pharmacy involvement was identified as a potential bottleneck. This presentation will discuss several approaches adopted by our team to accelerate CT set-up and delivery with a particular focus on the development and implementation of a single pharmacy review process for multicentre trials in the Greater Manchester area. The aim is to highlight the impact pharmacy can make in facilitating research delivery, promoting the use of novel and advanced treatments and ultimately streamline our processes related to trial set up as recommended by the recent government review.

  • 1. Working under the 150-day clinical trial set-up target set by MHRA
  • 2. Harmonise processes and centralise clinical trials pharmacy practise
  • 3. Upskill work force and increase external collaborations
