Developing and implementing the Single National Formulary

08 May 2026
Clinical Theatre 1
Developing and implementing the Single National Formulary

We will describe the work done to date on developing the Single National Formulary, along with plans for implementation. The NHS 10-year plan (2025) “aims to introduce a Single National Formulary (SNF) by 2027 to replace local prescribing lists, reducing regional "postcode lottery" access to medicines. Supported by NICE, this initiative aims to standardize high-quality care, improve efficiency, and ensure cost-effective prescribing across England, with a new oversight board managing the formulary”.
In this session we will describe the rationale for the Single National Formulary; the work done to date on developing the formulary, and plans for further development and implementation. There will be opportunity for Q&A and discussion at the end of the presentations.

Speakers
Richard Cattell, Deputy Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for England - NHS England
Rebecca Burgoyne, Senior Medicines Policy Manager - NHS England
Tony Avery, National Clinical Director for Prescribing - NHS England
