Genomics informed medicines optimisation and the role of pharmacy

The NHS Genomic Medicine Service provides genetic testing to patients across England, including an increasing number of tests that inform the use of medicines. This talk will consider the role of pharmacy and provide insights to current practice, future developments in line with national strategy, and available resources for professional development.

  • Know what the NHS Genomic Medicine Service is and how it supports patients
  • Understand the priorities of the Accelerating Genomic Medicine in the NHS strategy and the 10 Year Plan, particularly in relation to how genomics informs the use of medicines
  • Be up to date on current genomics informed medicines optimisation work in the NHS
  • Be able to outline the strategic aims of the NHSE Pharmacy Genomics Workforce, Training & Education Strategic Framework and identify where to access resources for personal ongoing development
  • Understand how pharmacy currently supports delivery and appreciate how it may in the future as services develop
