Complex medicine shortages - management and learnings
This session will discuss the systemwide management of tier 4 medication shortage and learnings from the recent antituberculosis medicines supply issue.
Medicine supply issue management can be complex with a number of workstreams that need to be coordinated in order to minimise risk to patients. This work is not seen by staff in secondary and primary care, so this presentation will look at how the medicine supply issues tiering system works, the background work undertaken for the antituberculosis medicines shortages, how allocations are managed, and some of the issues that had to be overcome to support clinical networks and patients.
We will also look at the learnings from this supply issue, and how we can improve systemwide working if further complex medicine supply issues arise.
