Neurodivergence in the pharmacy workforce: from reasonable adjustments to safer, stronger teams

08 May 2026
Strategy & Policy Forum
Pharmacy is a cognitively demanding profession operating under sustained workforce pressure. This session explores neurodivergence in the pharmacy workforce, focusing on how everyday systems, workflows and leadership practices can unintentionally disadvantage staff who process information differently. Using a realistic hospital pharmacy scenario, the session reframes neurodivergence as a system‑design and patient‑safety issue, rather than an individual support or wellbeing concern. Delegates will consider how small, practical changes to communication, environment and service design can improve safety, retention and performance for pharmacy teams, and what this means for leaders and policy‑makers shaping the future pharmacy workforce.
Chairperson
Emma Schofield, Credentialling Lead & Primary Care Education Lead - RCP & CPPE
Speakers
Assie O’Connor, Advanced Practitioner Pharmacist - Midlands Partnership Foundation University Trust
