Biologics at the frontline: high cost to high value

Biologics are evolving rapidly, and the role of the specialist pharmacist is evolving with them. This dynamic session, supported by Soar Beyond and led by a panel of expert biologics pharmacists, explores how frontline and aspiring specialists can create real value in neighbourhood care. Anchored in the NHS Long Term Plan and the Three Shifts, the session focuses on the practical skills, behaviours and pathway insights needed to deliver high value biologic care in a biosimilar first NHS. Expect real world examples, honest discussion, and actionable ideas you can take straight back to your service.

  • 1. Apply the NHS Long Term Plan and the Three Shifts to biologics pathways by identifying how specialist pharmacists can optimise biosimilar‑first care, reduce unwarranted variation, and strengthen neighbourhood‑level delivery models.
  • 2. Demonstrate the practical skills and behaviours required for high‑value biologic care, including pathway navigation, shared decision‑making, risk stratification, and proactive medicines optimisation across primary, community and specialist interfaces.
  • 3. Translate real‑world biologics challenges into actionable service improvements by analysing case examples, recognising common system barriers, and designing pharmacist‑led interventions that create measurable value for patients, MDTs and ICS priorities.
