Optimising ward stock improving availability and reducing waste

08 May 2026
Showcase Theatre
Medicines are the second highest area of NHS spend, and without intervention our Trust faced a projected 15% year on year increase in costs. This session describes how a data driven approach to ward stock management improved medicine availability, reduced waste, and delivered sustainable savings without compromising patient care. By standardising ward stock reviews across three sites, embedding them into Clinical Assistant (CATO) core roles, and using live dispensing and issue data, stock levels were aligned to clinical need rather than historical practice. Improved top ups, returns processes, and pharmacist collaboration reduced expiry risk and emergency requisitions. Attendees will gain practical insights into optimising ward stock and supporting safer, more efficient care.
