Using a behaviour change intervention to reduce carbon emissions from medicines

09 May 2026
Strategy & Policy Forum

The session will provide an overview for a research project which used behavioural science to develop an intervention to reduce prescribing of liquid Amoxicillin. This is important and liquid Amoxicillin releases approximatley three times the amount of carbon as capsules, is much more expensive and has worse treatment adherence compared to Amoxicillin capsules. Attendees will gain an understanding of simple and effective techniques to change prescribing behaviours.

  • How behavioural science can inform prescribing practicing
  • How to re-use and recycle research interventions to reduce waste
  • How to reduce liquid medication prescribing simply
