Caring for a patient with CKD post NICE 2021 guidance

In 2021, the NICE guidance for Chronic Kidney Disease: assessment and management [NG203] was updated with many new recommendations. Aimed at non-renal specialists, I will summarise the key points of the update on how to practically care for CKD patients that you will come across in primary or secondary care. In particular I will focus on

  • Estimating kidney function- changes in practice
  • SGLT2 inhibitor use in the CKD patient
  • Change of first line phosphate binder
  • Prescribing considerations in CKD patients
