NHS London Procurement Partnership - Collaboration across London

13 May 2022
Medicines Optimisation

The NHS LPP Medicines Optimisation (MOPP) team places patient care at the heart of everything that we do, ensuring that the things that matter most to patients are front and centre to everything that we deliver. The MOPP team also ensure that London gets the best possible value from the money it spends on medicines annually.
Being the only clinical team which is consistent of qualified and registered healthcare professionals, in an organisation which is highly procurement and finance focused, it is a key role for the MOPP team to ensure that appropriate clinical insight is provided to the wider teams, and that patient pathways are considered when designing strategies. The primary aim of the team is to promote alignment of medicines optimisation across the whole London health economy, facilitating collaboration with acute, mental health & community providers and monitoring performance against locally agreed key performance indicators. The team’s annual work plan is developed in collaboration with local medicines optimisation teams and is designed to reflect system wide priorities including those of hospitals, CCGs, ICSs and PCNs.  The team meets regularly with pharmacy leads in primary and secondary care, to support local implementation of the agreed work plan by medicines optimisation teams across the London health economy.

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe how a collaborative approach to delivering medicines optimisation across the London health economy has been achieved.
  • To describe the process we have adopted to mobilise a regional pan-London formulary for medicines.
  • To describe how our work on data driven care and health technology supports the London health economy.
  • To describe how the team supports medicines procurement across the region and beyond.
