How to have difficult conversations

21 Nov 2025
Room 4 (bookable sessions)

Introduction to Meducate Academy and Session Overview
Welcome to our Meducate Academy session on “How to Have Difficult Conversations.”
We’ll begin by introducing Meducate Academy, outlining our purpose and approach, and giving a brief introduction to the speakers leading today’s interactive workshop.

Unveiling the Art of Communication
We’ll start by exploring the core principles of effective communication within healthcare — understanding how empathy, clarity, and confidence underpin every successful patient and colleague interaction.

Building and Maintaining Rapport in Challenging Conversations
Next, we’ll look at practical ways to establish and sustain rapport, even when discussions become difficult. Through interactive exercises and guided reflection, you’ll learn how active listening and emotional awareness can help you navigate sensitive or high-stakes conversations with professionalism and care.

Decoding the Anatomy of a Poor Consultation (Live Scenario)
We’ll then bring these ideas to life in a live scenario-based demonstration, analysing what can go wrong in a consultation — and, more importantly, how to turn it around. This session will highlight common communication pitfalls and showcase techniques for creating more positive outcomes.

Interactive Discussion and Q&A
To close the session, we’ll open the floor for a Q&A and discussion, giving you the opportunity to share your thoughts, ask questions, and reflect on how these skills can be applied in your own practice.

Speakers
