Prescribing in Community Pharmacy; insights from the Pathfinder Programme

21 Nov 2025
Keynote Theatre

The NHS England Independent Prescribing in Community Pharmacy Pathfinder Programme was designed to create a commissioning framework for prescribing in community pharmacy services. Key workstreams include clinical, digital, governance and people. The team will share key insights from the programme and evaluation. There have been over 30,000 consultations across 13 clinical models, spanning acute minor illness, long-term conditions, and novel services such as menopause care and de-prescribing. As the pathfinder comes to an end, we look to the challenges of bringing prescribing into national and local clinical services from community pharmacy.

  • 1. Understand the strategic role of independent prescribing in community pharmacy
  • 2. Explore the diversity of prescribing models being trialled
  • 3. Recognise the importance of governance, digital infrastructure, and people aspects of implementing prescribing
Speakers
Wasim Baqir, Senior Pharmacist, Pharmacy Integration Fund - NHS England
