Cancer and cardiac health (cardio-oncology)
The recent explosion of targeted treatments in cancer has meant that more patients are being treated for cancer and are living longer on treatment and beyond. Unfortunately, many of the pathways we target with anti-cancer agents, also have a role in cardiac function and can have a negative impact on heart health. Cardio-oncology is an emerging specialty, aimed at optimising cancer treatment while protecting the heart. Alison and Emma will talk through some different types of cardiotoxcity and how the impact can be minimised through patient assessment and medicines optimisation.
