Single use plastic is an epidemic within pharmacy so widely used that we no longer even see the vast amounts used in our everyday practice. Plastic as a whole is having a significant and correspondingly catastrophic effect on our environment, accounting for 6% of oil production. Further its is estimated that plastic will be responsible for up to 13% of the total carbon budget by 2050. The pharmacy profession has a substantial role to play in reducing this demand for plastic and specifically single use plastic. Humanity is staring into the void of no longer being able to sustain organised life as we know it, we are in a pivotable moment requiring rapid change, if are to step away.
