Second came the award for Excellence in Hospital Pharmacy Practice. This was won by Cecilia Tse, Senior Pharmacist at Northwick Park Hospital. Her nominator told us: ‘The attributes of Cecilia Tse immediately came to mind when I saw this nomination request. I consider her to be a major asset to Pharmacy services in the Trust. Cecilia epitomises all the hard-working NHS staff who remain cheerfully hard-working whatever the pressures of the NHS around them.  She is an excellent colleague in so many respects and has managed to combine her exemplary professional behaviour with bringing up twins.’

Anthony Singh, Prescribing PCN Clinical Pharmacist/Teacher Practitoner at NW Leicestershire PCN won Excellence in Primary Care Pharmacy Practice, which was sponsored by Day Lewis. Highlighted in his nomination was the following: ‘Leading a team across 12 GP surgeries, Anthony pioneered a pharmacist-led menopause clinic, delivering 300 appointments to patients in six months. Anthony selflessly provides menopause mentorship nationwide and played a key role in vaccinating over 115,000 patients. His collaborative leadership unified 12 GP surgeries, and he established innovative clinics, such as the Weekend Learning Disability Clinic, emphasising inclusivity. Anthony's achievements exemplify his commitment to advancing healthcare accessibility and outcomes.’

Next up, the EPS Team at the Midlands Partnership University Foundation Trust were awarded Excellence in use of Technology in Pharmacy Practice for their work introducing EPS into the trust. The team’s nominator stated: ‘In collaboration with NHS England and Cleo systems, MPFT introduced a first of type in secondary care of an electronic prescribing system to support increased workloads, which has had positive influence on sustainability, reducing CO2 emissions and streamlining practices and processes. This has also enhanced patient choice and increased patient safety, as well as time and cost savings for prescribers, patients and community pharmacies.’

Finally, the Unsung Hero award was shared by Sam Coombes and Cath Cooksey, Lead Medicines Information Technician & Sustainability Lead and Lead Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist at NHS Kent and Medway and East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. Their nominator said ‘Cath Cooksey and Sam Coombes are both true unsung heroes, dedicating their spare time to lead on sustainability projects across the Kent & Medway ICS. They have developed and launched Re-Hale, the largest scalable inhaler-recycling scheme in the UK. Their dedication has convinced commercial, NHS & local council partners to all use their resource and expertise to make this pilot a success. Since the launch in October 2023, 3750 inhalers have been collected for recycling.’
