Meet the team at Soar Beyond

Meet the team at Soar Beyond

One look at the “Meet the Team” page on the Soar Beyond website and it’s clear to see that this is no ordinary company. This is an organisation where female energy, creativity, planning, passion and clinical expertise prevail. Soar Beyond is a predominantly pharmacist-led company and proud of its female / male workforce ratio: at the time of writing (but always changing as the organisation expands) it has a 75% female workforce across all levels within the business.

Shailen Rao, Managing Director says

“It is a source of great pride within the company that we attract such high calibre female leaders from within and outside of the pharmacy sector. Like truly does attract like and I believe that Soar Beyond continuously magnetises strong, capable, driven and committed women who want to make a difference to patients, the profession and healthcare at scale”

What does International Women’s Day mean to you in your role?

It’s a celebration of how far we have come, yet how much further we collectively have to go. Shailen and I are parents to two teenage daughters and I live by the phrase “Teach your girls about glass ceilings not glass slippers”

What advice do you have for women in pharmacy?

I am not a pharmacist myself but surrounded by so many incredible role model female pharmacy leaders. My advice is to seek these leaders out, learn from them and model their behaviours- be bold and be assertive

What does International Women’s Day mean to you in your role?

As a woman from an Indian background, MANY MANY years ago my culture was preparing women to be housewives, not gearing us up for a career. The birth of a son was celebrated for the main reason being, heir to carry on the family name and the birth of a daughter was frowned upon.

It is women that have made the change and women are continuing to do so. With the challenges women have seen, we are now able to reach new heights and stand shoulder to shoulder with other leaders to make a difference

I am so grateful to be surrounded by so many inspirational women in both work and out of work to support me and bring the best out of me.

For me, International Women’s Day (IWD) is about thinking and reflecting on the value that women bring and the challenges they may face to get their voices heard. And therefore, it is important, not just for IWD but every day, to recognise, support and empower women to be the best they can be and shine the brightest they can.

Follow your heart, ambition, and dreams in your career.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you in your role?

It is an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the achievement of women who have been instrumental in bringing about change, as well as those who have directly influenced me in my personal and professional life.  It is because of these people, that I have felt empowered to be able to follow a career path without any limits, and I hope that I can continue to grow in my role and inspire and empower others to do the same.

What advice do you have for women in pharmacy?

We are fortunate to be surrounded by so many inspiring women in the world of pharmacy. Being a woman shouldn’t stop you from following a career path that is right for you.  If you have the skills for something, go for it, speak out, continue to ask questions and always celebrate your achievements

What does International Women’s Day mean to you in your role?

International women’s day has set precedence to the role of women in society. It is a long overdue recognition which to me promotes women empowerment, leadership and helps bridge the gap in gender discrimination.

What advice do you have for women in pharmacy?

My advice for women in Pharmacy is inspired by a quote by William Du Bois “There is no force equal to a woman determined to rise”. So, visualise your target and run like you are unstoppable!

What does International Women’s Day mean to you in your role?

For me, it’s about recognising, supporting, celebrating and empowering women.  To also remember the struggles women have fought to be seen as equal and continue to support equality.  Women should stand together and be a role model to the younger generation of girls.

What advice do you have for women in pharmacy?

You can do whatever you want, do not let your gender stop you achieving your ambitions.  As a pharmacist, it is so amazing to see so many women in high power roles!
