The College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP) at CPC

The College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP) at CPC
The CMHP is a charity which aims to benefit individual care through advancing education and research in the practice of mental health pharmacy.

With April being stress awareness month, it gives us time to reflect on the challenging few years we have and are living through. Stress escalated for all of us at times and one thing that emerged was the importance of community support whether that was volunteering at your local foodbank or contacting someone that was isolated for a chat.  A community is much more than just a group of people.  It’s about having a sense of belonging and connection to others and feel supported and accepted by them.

At the core of The CMHP is its community. We offer peer support and discussion through our groups.io email group and online resources in the members’ section of our website. Whatever your level of experience, you can seek advice and guidance on medicines, unusual side effects or other clinical matters, as well as, management and policy matters. Our members are very willing to help each other, to share their experiences and to encourage best practice.

We welcome pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in all sectors of pharmacy to our College. Come along to stand K52 to meet with some CMHP members. You can find out more about what it’s like to work in mental health pharmacy and the support we offer to our members.

As an education partner of CPC, this year’s programme includes three CMHP-badged sessions:

  • Pharmacy's role in suicide prevention: Learnings from international work by Dr Hayley Gorton, Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice - University of Huddersfield, on 13 May
  • Physical Health in Severe Mental Illness: The Role of Pharmacy by Dr Dolly Sud, Senior Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist/Postdoctoral Researcher, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust/College of Mental Health Pharmacy, on 13 May
  • Antipsychotics - busting some myths by Professor Stephen Bazire, Honorary Professor - University of East Anglia, on 14 May
