Chao is a graduate from the University of Nottingham and began her career in community pharmacy. She has experience working in patient-orientated environments delivering high quality NHS and private pharmaceutical services such as provision of health checks, travel clinics, acne and weight management clinics, which have honed her skills to communicate empathetically whilst seizing opportunities to promote and support healthier lifestyles. She has enhanced her clinical skills through completion of a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy Practice (Primary Care) with the University of Bath. Chao then went on to pursue a career in academia, becoming a teacher practitioner at UCL School of Pharmacy, where she draws upon her extensive experience as a community pharmacist to inform and enrich her teaching to give students further context and to support them in gaining a deeper understanding of pharmacy practice. Chao co-leads the award winning ‘Pharmacy Live’ placements for UCL MPharm undergraduates and is dedicated to training, mentoring and inspiring the next generation of clinical pharmacists and instilling within them a dedication for safe, evidence-based and compassionate pharmaceutical care. Chao was awarded an Associate Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy. As a senior education and training pharmacist, Chao works in close collaboration with the head of education to shape the strategic vision and to cultivate growth of the campus department through regular planning meetings and liaising with key stakeholders at various educational institutions to meet shared agendas.
