Hayley Gorton
Senior Lecturer In Pharmacy Practice,
Aston University
Dr Hayley Gorton is Senior Lecturer in Pharmacoepidemiology at Aston University and an academic pharmacist with a community pharmacy background. Her research focuses on medicines safety and suicide prevention, underpinned by a PhD from the University of Manchester exploring the pharmacoepidemiology of medicines and suicide. She currently holds a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Development and Skills Enhancement Fellowship and leads the ASPIRE study, funded by a Medical Research Foundation Launchpad Grant in Mental Health. This study is investigating a potential drug-drug interaction between propranolol and antidepressants, prompted by a signal from previous work using the National Programme on Substance Use Mortality (NPSUM). Her 2018 Churchill Fellowship enabled international collaboration in the USA and Canada, sparking her leadership in research on the role of community pharmacy teams in suicide prevention. This research has informed national policy and practice, including the Pharmacy Quality Scheme and NICE self-harm guidelines.
