Jennifer Thomson
Critical Care and Outreach Pharmacist,

Jennifer has worked at University Hospital since 2000 and in Critical Care since 2003. During this time she worked in the Emergency Department, taking part in early research with pharmacists writing prescriptions for patients to be admitted and worked on national guidance for antidote holdings for Emergency Departments. Since 2006 she has focused on Critical Care, completed an MSc with research into pharmaceutical handovers and has been an independent prescriber for more than 10 years. She is a member of the UKCPA Critical Care group committee and contributes to their foundation training course for Critical Care Pharmacists. Jennifer has also worked in pharmacy education, between 2019 and 2023 she was, in addition to her clnical role, one of the Training Programme Directors for pre-registration pharmacists (now foundation trainee pharmacists) for HEE South. She has supported many pharmacists through post-graduate courses and is an experienced tutor for PgD pharmacists and practice supervisor for dietitians' completing supplementary prescribing courses. She has significant experience in nutritional support for critically ill patients and has contributed to international work on peri-operative nutrition. Since 2023 she has also been the development lead for rotational clinical pharmacists at UHS and in this role has published abstracts at conferences and supported members of her team to do the same. She was awarded an NIHR ARC research internship in 2025 to work on further qualitative research into early careers pharmacist development roles. Jennifer is passionate about improving patient experience and the development of pharmacists as well-rounded practitioners and is proud to have successfully completed RPS Consultant level credentialling in 2025.
