Professor Mahendra G Patel OBE is an eminent pharmacist and academic of national and international profile with professorial roles in the UK, Malaysia and USA. He has served as national board member and as Treasurer for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for many years. He is also an esteemed member of the Teaching and Faculty Board of the Department of Education’s International Chair for Bioethics Programme UNESCO. Mahendra has several national and international awards to his credit including the Pharmacy Business Ram Solanki Lifetime Achievement Award, notably around supporting evidence-based practice, health promotion and health education, and improving health and health inequalities within ethnic minority and underserved communities. He became one of the first to be awarded a Fellowship from NICE, and through pharmacy he received the prestigious Royal Pharmaceutical Society President’s Charter Award, and also became the first to be appointed International Fellow of the Indian Pharmaceutical Society. Mahendra is one of the UK trial leads at the University of Oxford in the world’s largest and fastest recruiting clinical trials in primary care, with the COVID-19 PRINCIPLE and PANORAMIC trials. In the Queen's New Year's Honours 2022, Mahendra was recognised for his outstanding contribution and work in pharmacy and was awarded an OBE.
