Penny was inspired to become a patient safety partner after working closely with healthcare staff, patient safety managers, policymakers and researchers to co-design guidance for compassionate engagement and involvement of patients, families and staff in patient safety incident investigations (Learn Together programme). Within the National Patient Safety Team, Penny currently contributes to the Medicines Safety Improvement Programme, including working with the Specialist Pharmacy Service; implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework; and as part of diverse groups focusing on enhancing safety culture and independent investigations. Penny also provides a patient voice in the co-production of patient safety research.
