Shazia Aziz - Heywood PCN- Rochdale Health Alliance

Shazia Aziz

Lead (Advanced) Pharmacist, Heywood PCN- Rochdale Health Alliance
Shazia is an experienced Advanced clinical pharmacist with a diverse background spanning community pharmacy, the prison sector, and primary care. She began her career in community pharmacy management before being seconded to a private prison, where she co-chaired the Medicines Management Group and enhanced governance and prescribing practices. In 2016, she transitioned into general practice, qualifying as an Independent Prescriber and later specialising in mental health through advanced clinical studies. Her expertise and leadership led to a direct appointment within a large dual-site practice, where she contributed to developing structured medication review processes and multidisciplinary care models. Since 2020, Shazia has served as Lead Pharmacist for Heywood Primary Care Network, where she has successfully recruited and developed a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. She leads on medicines optimisation, pathway development, and quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient care across the network. Nationally recognised for her work in implementing clinical workplans and evidence-based pathways, Shazia regularly chairs and speaks at educational events and congresses. Her current clinical interests include cardiovascular disease, polypharmacy, and deprescribing, with a strong focus on improving outcomes through safe, person-centred care.
