Stephen Wheatcroft

Professor of Cardiometabolic Medicine and Consultant Cardiologist, University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
Prf Wheatcroft He graduated in Medicine from the University of Birmingham and following general medical training in the West Midlands, he trained in cardiology in the South East of England and Kings College Hospital, London. He completed a PhD in Cardiovascular Science at King’s College, London. After fellowships in coronary intervention in Krakow and Prague, he joined the University of Leeds as an academic cardiologist in 2006. He leads a vascular biology research group in Leeds focused on the effects of diabetes and insulin resistance on the cardiovascular system. Working at one of the UK’s highest volume heart attack centres, he has clinical interests in coronary artery intervention, acute coronary syndromes and cardiovascular risk reduction. He is passionate about reducing cardiovascular risk in people with cardiovascular disease, diabetes or chronic kidney disease. Steve is chair of CaReMe-UK, a collaboration between the British Cardiovascular Society, Association of British Clinical Diabetologists, UK Kidney Association, Primary Care Cardiovascular Society and Primary Care Diabetes Society.
