Dr Wasim Baqir is Head of Pharmacy Integration within the Primary Care team at NHS England, providing national leadership on the strategic integration of pharmacy services across primary care and wider system transformation. His work focuses on enabling Integrated Care Systems to embed pharmacy within place based and neighbourhood models of care, supporting improved population health outcomes, service sustainability, and workforce development. He previously led the national Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes programme for NHS England, working across organisational boundaries to strengthen medicines safety and integrated delivery (https://tinyurl.com/shinepills). Dr Baqir currently leads the Community Pharmacy Independent Pathfinder Programme in England and works across priority areas including primary care, health inequalities, and workforce. Alongside his national role, he maintains a clinical post as Lead Pharmacist at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. He has a passion for quality improvement science and is a member the Health Foundation’s Q Network. Nationally, he co-chairs the multidisciplinary medicines research group, PRIMM (Prescribing Research in Medicines Management).
