The British Hepatology Pharmacy Group (BHPG) is an affiliated group of the British Association for the Study of the Liver (BASL).

It is a professional pharmacy organisation aiming to develop knowledge and understanding of liver disorders including viral hepatitis, in order to improve the quality of patient care, through:

• Promoting excellence in the provision of pharmaceutical care to all patients with liver disorders including viral hepatitis
• The promotion of a collaborative and multi-disciplinary approach to caring for people with liver disorders including viral hepatitis
• The provision of educational support and educational opportunities in the field of hepatology and viral hepatitis;
• The promotion and dissemination of patient-focused research;

BHPG aims to offer support for all pharmacists who see patients with liver disease both as in-patients and out-patients. Pharmacy members of BASL currently include pharmacists working within hepatology, gastroenterology and infectious diseases, but with one common goal - to improve care for those with liver disease.

The BPNG (formerly the National TPN Group, NTPNG) was formed in 1988 by a group of pharmaceutically minded professionals from hospital, academia and industry. The ethos of the group was to provide education, further research and support product development in the rapidly changing area of parenteral nutrition support. The 'all-in-one' parenteral nutrition solution was still a new approach and much was being learnt about stability. In the early 1990's the Kings fund convened a multidisciplinary group to focus on nutrition, the then chair of the NTPNG, Patricia Wright and secretary, Tim Sizer, were part of the group that led to the publication of the document 'A positive approach to nutrition as treatment' in 1992. Following this collaboration an association of the contributing groups came together to form the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN).
Throughout the intervening years the BPNG has delivered on its core aims, providing regular educaitonal activities and in addition collaborating proactively with other professional groups to support their activities.
The group changed their name to the British Pharmaceutical Nutrition Group to more acurately reflect the broad nature of its members and their contributions and roles within nutrition

We are a professional and trade union-backed membership organisation for pharmacists in the managed service, working for the NHS across the UK. The GHP is over 100 years old and has helped lead, shape, and grow pharmacy into where it is today.

Our mission

The GHP represents more than 6,000 pharmacists in the NHS. Our purpose is to champion NHS and GP pharmacy teams, to campaign for professional development with terms and conditions in mind and to secure the best possible deals for our members.

We strive to protect and promote NHS pharmacists and give our members a voice now and in the future.

We lobby to make change where change is needed most. Our job as the voice of NHS and GP pharmacy is to ensure that working pharmacists are represented at the highest levels.

Our council is a broad church of pharmacy experience. Having working pharmacists around the table coupled with the industrial and bargaining expertise of our Unite colleagues underpins our actions with authenticity.

We pride ourselves on delivering at a local level with Regional Members (RMs) acting on behalf of members in their area.

We have extensive reach across the profession which enables us to take your views to the highest decision-making levels. Driving pharmacy forward is part of our mission and it is vital that the workforce as a whole is given great consideration.

There are many events the Guild either runs or attends throughout the year. Our council meets every other month and subgroups PDIG and QATS have regular symposia.

We’re active on social media and engage with members directly through RMs and representatives.
