Developing and implementing the Single National Formulary
The NHS 10-year plan (2025) “aims to introduce a Single National Formulary (SNF) by 2027 to replace local prescribing lists, reducing regional "postcode lottery" access to medicines. Supported by NICE, this initiative aims to standardize high-quality care, improve efficiency, and ensure cost-effective prescribing across England, with a new oversight board managing the formulary”. In this session we will describe the rationale for the Single National Formulary; the work done to date on developing the formulary, and plans for further development and implementation. There will be opportunity for Q&A and discussion at the end of the presentations.

Strategic commissioning in the new NHS
The NHS is entering a new phase in which Integrated Care Boards are expected to operate as strategic commissioners and intelligent healthcare payers, rather than direct service managers. This session explores what that shift really means in practice. Drawing on the NHS England Strategic Commissioning Framework and emerging Model ICB thinking on medicines and system stewardship, it will examine how commissioners use their payor role to understand population need, plan and contract for high-value care, and monitor outcomes, inequalities and financial sustainability. We will consider the increasing delegation of delivery to providers, the use of data and contractual levers to reduce unwarranted variation, and the risks of fragmentation or misaligned incentives if reform is poorly handled. The session will focus on the leadership, capability and judgement required to commission boldly, transparently and responsibly in a financially constrained and politically sensitive environment

Make, Market or Mix - Crafting the NHS Injectables Model of the Future
Since the national aseptics review in 2020, NHS England's Infusions and Special Medicines Programme has been been working on the recommendations to ensure sufficient capacity and resilience in the provision of aseptic medicines for NHS patients. Now, more than five years since the review, is it time for a strategic rethink?

Complex medicine shortages - management and learnings
Medicine supply issue management can be complex with a number of workstreams that need to be coordinated in order to minimise risk to patients. This work is not seen by staff in secondary and primary care, so this presentation will look at how the medicine supply issues tiering system works, the background work undertaken for the antituberculosis medicines shortages, how allocations are managed, and some of the issues that had to be overcome to support clinical networks and patients. We will also look at the learnings from this supply issue, and how we can improve systemwide working if further complex medicine supply issues arise.

High Output Stomas - why do they happen and how to manage?
This presentation provides a comprehensive review of high output stomas (HOS), focusing on their definition, underlying causes, physiological consequences, and evidence-based treatment strategies. Particular attention is given to short bowel syndrome as a major contributor to high output states. The session emphasises the importance of recognising high output early, optimising fluid and electrolyte management, using appropriate pharmacological therapies, and avoiding common clinical mistakes that can worsen patient outcomes. The presentation supports clinicians in developing a structured, safe, and practical approach to managing patients with high output stomas in both acute and specialist settings.
  2. Technical Services Theatre
This session takes delegates on a guided journey through the evolution of career pathways in aseptic services, exploring how changes in legislation, regulatory expectations, and workforce demands have shaped the roles we see today. It highlights the shift from traditional technical positions to modern roles, and examines the impact of developments. The session showcases successful workforce models and real examples of what can be achieved through structured development and strategic planning. It also outlines practical approaches to designing future-ready pathways—aligning capability with service needs, embedding competency assessment and supervision, and supporting staff retention and succession planning. Delegates will be introduced to national resources and will leave with practical ideas, templates, and strategies to apply within their own organisations.

Vaccinations and changes to the Human Medicines Regulations since COVID: what it means for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
In April 2026 amendments were made to the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 to support the ongoing supply and deployment of vaccinations across the UK. These changes are significant in improving vaccination access and models of delivery building on learning from the pandemic. Changes include a new legal mechanism for vaccination administration (a Vaccine Group Direction), access to NHS vaccinations via community pharmacies and changes to the Occupational Health Vaccinator role. This session will outline the amendments and their implications for practice and vaccination delivery.

This session aims to give an insight into prescribing of parenteral nutrition on Critical Care. The session will look at the differences between ITU and a general ward environment, why parenteral nutrition may be needed and when to start for critically ill patients and will use a case example to discuss some of these points.

This engaging session is designed for pharmacy staff who regularly receive questions about herbal products, supplements, and over the counter “wellness” items. 1. Strategy & Policy Forum
Recruitment shapes culture, yet many systems unintentionally create barriers for the very people organisations want to attract. Inclusive by Design reframes recruitment as an experience that can be intentionally crafted to be fair, human, and effective for both candidates and recruiters. In this session, Kiran and Sarah explore how inclusive design principles can transform everyday hiring decisions, revealing where bias hides, how small tweaks can create big shifts, and why candidate experience is now a strategic differentiator. Delegates will gain practical insights and immediate actions to elevate recruitment, strengthen organisational credibility, and create pathways where every applicant can genuinely thrive.

Improving Oncall and Emergency Duty Cover
EDC and oncall often falls upon the more junior members of our teams and they are often the least empowered to improve things. Rota commitments may be relatively short-lived and there may be a lack of sympathy from those that have had to put up with it themselves in the past. Rather than take the “Well, I had to suck it up” approach, I’ve been keen to improve things for those that came after me. Terms and conditions are not just about professional remuneration, pay is sometimes the minor issue. Management of rota clashes, access to support, well defined responsibilities, equity in shifts, safe rest time, even safe transport and parking are all negotiable factors with GHP and Unite the Union support.
  6. Technology & Innovation Theatre
This session will explore how Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust designed and implemented a real-time Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Dashboard that transforms electronic prescribing data into practical, clinically meaningful insights. Attendees will be taken through the journey from concept to delivery, including data mapping, metric selection, visual design, and engagement strategies with clinical teams. The session will demonstrate how the dashboard integrates seamlessly with the electronic prescribing system to surface key performance indicators. Through real-world examples, the session will highlight how near-live visibility of prescribing behaviours has supported targeted stewardship interventions, strengthened governance, reduced unnecessary broad-spectrum antibiotic use, and improved the utility of antimicrobial use. Participants will gain an understanding of how digital stewardship tools can be embedded into everyday workflows and how this supports national priorities
